Subsequent to our incorporation in 1985 by the late George Akester, we have grown to serve hundreds of satisfied clients in varying capacities across Australia. Collectively, with our Senior Consultants, Administration and support staff, Guardian Elevator Services Pty Ltd can provide cost effective and time efficient services in all aspects of vertical transportation consultancy. Our key staff members include:


John Lockwood - Director and Senior Consultant:

With more than forty years experience in the vertical transportation industry, John has been employed by Guardian Elevator Services Lift Consultants since January 1998. Qualifications and accreditations include an A-Grade Electricians Licence, formal qualifications in industrial electronics and holder of a Certificate of Competency to Install, Maintain and Test Lifts & Escalators, issued by the government authority of the time.


Prior to joining Guardian Elevator Services, he conceived and operated his own consultancy, for approximately two and half years before being invited to join Mr. George Akester (dec.) at Guardian Elevator Services Pty Ltd, as a Director and business partner. Prior to commencing his own consultancy, he was employed by Schindler Lifts Australia for approximately ten years, initially as a maintenance technician and then in the construction department in the field of tuning, testing and commissioning of new Lifts and escalators.


During the last eight years of his employment at Schindler Lifts Australia, John was engaged in the areas of design, sales and project management of Lift and escalator repairs, modernisations and new sales, and as a manager of special projects. Prior to employment with Schindler Lifts Australia, he worked for EPL (now Kone Elevators) for a period of eleven years as a maintenance technician, leading hand and supervisor, the latter period of his employment being spent in the area of special projects.


Before joining EPL, he completed his apprenticeship in the electrical trades specialising for five years in hoists, cranes and conveyors, being involved in the activities of manufacture, installation and servicing of such equipment.


Associate and Consultant:

One of our senior consultants has more than twenty-one years experience in the management, installation, maintenance and service of Lifts and escalators and as a specialist vertical transportation consultant. Qualifications and accreditations include an A-Grade Electricians Licence, formal qualifications in industrial electronics, Motor Control and Circuitry, AutoCAD Drawing and holder of a Certificate of Competency to Install, Maintain and Test Lifts & Escalators, issued by the government authority of the time.


Joining Guardian Elevator Services in 2008 after nine years in the commercial property and Healthcare industry his roles included three years with Mirvac as Operations Manager for the commercial property Investments sector with responsibilities in Project management, building compliance, contractor performance, energy management and forward planning. A further six years within Epworth Hospital facilities department included management of building works, refurbishment projects and contract management.


Prior to working within the facilities management area he was employed by several elevator companies including eight years with Otis Elevator Co. as a leading hand mechanic and commissioning mechanic on large installation projects including Rialto Towers and Melbourne Underground Rail Network. Other appointments include ten years with Delta Lifts as Operations Manager responsible for the management of Lift repairs, modernisations and new installations.
